Inkwell Games: all four puzzles, explained

Inkwell Games makes daily logic puzzles that start gentle on Monday and turn tough by Sunday. Here's how each one works, and where to get help when you're stuck.

Stars

Place stars in a grid without letting them touch.

Stars is the puzzle most of the world calls Star Battle. Every row, column and outlined region holds two stars, and no two stars touch, even at a corner.

Fields

Color a grid so that each field matches its number.

Every cell is green or blue. Each field holds one number, which is its size, and fields of the same color can't share an edge.

Loopy River

Draw one continuous loop around the grid.

The river has to pass through every open cell and close into a single loop, with no branches or dead ends, while flowing around walls and islands.

Mosaic

Follow the clues to reveal a hidden picture.

You work out which squares to fill from the clues, and a picture appears as you solve.

Stuck on an Inkwell puzzle?

All of these puzzles work the same way: look for what can't be true, not for what might be. Our post on why a good logic puzzle never needs a guess shows that idea on a live board.

For Stars, the Star Battle solver explains any board you paint in, one step at a time, and we publish a worked solution for every daily Stars board. The strategy guide covers the techniques behind them.
